Significators/Kārakas for becoming a Lawyer:
Lawyers are the representatives of their clients who battle in courtrooms using the following skills as weapons which are signified by corresponding planets & houses:
Understanding & Knowledge of Law: Jupiter & 5th House
Courtroom battles: 6th House
Interpreting Law to the benefit of their clients: Rāhū
through suitable arguments: Mercury & 2nd House [Speech]
Citing Precedents: Saturn & 9th House
Deriving inferences that lead to decisions: Mars & 10th House.
Let us know a bit more about the significators/kārakas:
Mars gives the initiative for fighting battles while Jupiter gives the knowledge for fighting these battles. There’s a thin line between lawyers & warriors in that the former have stronger Jupiter while the latter have a stronger Mars. Hence, conjunction/association of Jupiter & Mars [Guru-Mangala yoga] is very good for lawyers. Ideally, Jupiter should be stronger than Mars & influencing the Ārūḍha Lagna (image) & Lagna (intellect).
Mercury also plays a crucial role in bringing Mars under check as people who are talking or debating over an issue are not at war. Mercury-Mars combination gives the ability for arguments, debate & to mould the direction of discussion. Hence, Mercury-Mars conjunction/association is also fantastic for a lawyer.
The 2nd House/Lord of speech if associated with Jupiter will show that the lawyer will speak only what he is convinced of and will be capable of convincing others. The association of 2H/2L with Mercury gives the ability to twist the issues to fit the need of the hour – “clever speech”. While Venus gives sweet speech i.e., people who are good at giving compliments & this is not a plus point for the courtroom battles. Malefic planets give bad speech & this can cause one to lose a case simply because the delivery was poor or unintelligible. Exalted planets give flawless speech while the reverse is true for debilitated planets.
Malefic planets influencing or placed in the sixth house especially Saturn or Rāhū are considered a blessing in the charts of lawyers. When placed in the 6th House, Saturn will have amrita dṛṣti on the 8th, 12th & 3rd Houses and will give victory due to delay while Rāhū will destroy the confidence & reputation of the opposite party. Mars will cause calamities in the enemy camp and the Sun will cause financial distress. Furthermore in this context, if Saturn is placed in the 9th House, it’ll cast its special aspect on the 11th House (of gains) & 6th House (of enemies) making the native work/labour patiently (for gains/11H) without losing hope inspite of impossible odds & also giving the native unending energy to keep fighting & defeating the enemies (6H), respectively. Similarly, Mars in Lagna or 10H gives tremendous fighting prowess. Such people are capable of giving a crushing defeat through their enterprise & can deliver the most impossible tasks. Mars in the 7th House will also aspect Lagna giving physical strength & destroy the 6th House of enemies [Mars destroys the 12th House from its placement – Pāchakādi Sambandha]. However, when Mars aspects Lagna it should be strong else the native shall be cowardly.
Strong Malefic planets in the 3rd House from the Ārūḍha Lagna [AL] or the sign/rāśi being malefic in the third from AL gives fighting ability.
The courage to stand up for what one thinks is right based on conscience is seen in the third from kārakāmśa. If a malefic planet is in the 3rd house from the kārakāmśa then the native is very bold and shall not hesitate to speak his mind.
Generally, malefics in trika houses [3H, 6H, 11H] are considered very good for lawyers.
In short, a lawyer must be shrewd [Rāhū], have knowledge & brilliance [Jupiter], oratorial skills [Mercury], energy & discipline [Mars].
In the Daśāmśa, the sixth house of service if strong can show jobs in law firms or as company lawyers. Instead a strong 7th House will show private practice.
Significators/Kārakas for becoming a Judge:
The combinations for a judge are more or less the same for lawyers as most judges have been lawyers before becoming judges.
Jupiter [the significator for fairness & justice] or Venus [the lord of Libra – The Court] should be strong or in friendly or benevolent navāmśa AND the 9th Lord should be in strength to indicate that the native is an administrator of justice.
The 10th Lord in strength & involved in powerful yogas shows that the native has the power to issue orders. And such orders will have to be implemented if the rāśi & navāmśa dispositor of the 10L is in kendra or strong.
Now, if the 10L is conjoined/associated with benefic planets in rāśi or navāmśa then the judge shall pass merciful orders & shall be kind in judging. Instead, if associated with malefics, the judge shall pass cruel orders & shall punish without mercy. Saturn represents the god of death who was unflinching in punishing even his step-mother Chāyā [Shadow] and was given the title of dharma rājā [upholder of dharma] by the Sun God. In the nyāya philosophy and punishment for misdeeds, it is Saturn who delivers the punishment through his nature of causing sorrow. In the other philosophies using the theory of karma & re-birth, it is again Saturn who is the principle cause of re-birth. Re-birth is seen from the seventh house & Saturn is exalted in Libra the natural seventh house of the zodiac. In addition, Saturn also gets digbala (directional strength) in the seventh house. The scales of Libra symbolize the judiciary where the karma of good & evil is weighed before pronouncing the judgement.
David Brand (1923 – 1996):

In the chart of a British Lawyer, Solicitor General & Judge, we see the Yogakāraka [4th & 9th Lord] Mars conjunct an exalted [2nd & 11th Lord] Mercury in the 2nd House of Speech – Perfect combination for a Lawyer. This conjunction of the 2L, 4L, 11L [Dhaneśa, Vidyeśa, Lābheśa] forms Parijāta Yoga. Parijāta Yoga is the wish fulfilling tree with its roots in heaven & branches/fruits on earth. Mars also being the 9L adds the dimension of dharma/law to this yoga. Mars-Mercury also have rāśi dṛṣti/sign aspect on the Ārūḍha Lagna [AL] in Sagittarius 5H giving him the image of being an excellent Lawyer. Rāhū in Lagna is casting its full 4 pada graha dṛṣti/planetary aspect on this Mars-Mercury combination adding to his ability to argue his cases for the benefit of his clients & grill & trap the opposition with his words.
Lord of AL in Sagittarius is Jupiter [Kāraka for Law] in Libra [The Court] conjunct the 10L Venus which is in its Mūlatrikoṇa sign/rāśi Libra, Exalted Saturn & Lagna Lord Sun. This is a very powerful conglomeration of planets where Sun & Jupiter as 1L & 5L are creating Mahārāja Yoga and Jupiter & Venus as 5L & 10L are creating another rājayoga which enables the native to get a governmental or a high-level post due to his intellectual strength. True to the promise of these yogas, Brand was appointed as a Sheriff in the antar-daśā of Sun & started serving as a Solicitor General with the advent of Venus antar-daśā.
Both the 9L (Mars forming Parijāta Yoga with an exalted Mercury) & the 10L Lord (Venus in Libra its Mūlatrikoṇa) are strong & it was in the antar-daśā of Venus in 1972 that he got elevated to start serving as a Judge.
Now, the 10th Lord Venus is conjunct 2 malefics Saturn & Sun in the Rāśi Chart & in the Navāmśa, Venus is in parivartana with Saturn. [Dictum: The 10th Lord if associated with Malefics in Rāśi or Navāmśa, the judge will pass harsh, cruel judgements]. The Wiki profile on David Brand mentions: David Brand had earned himself a reputation for harsh sentencing.

In the Daśāmśa/D10, 10th Lord Mercury is in Libra [The Court] conjunct an Exalted Saturn [Dharma Rājā]. Rāhū in the 2H aspected by Jupiter also gives the ability to argue cases very convincingly.
He retired in the antar-daśā of Moon which is the 8L in D10.
Śhatābdikā daśā is applicable in this chart as Lagna is Vargottama.
Richard Nixon:

Notice the pārijāta yoga again: conjunction of the 2L 4L 11L.
The 2L Mercury conjoins Mars Jupiter Sun fulfilling the requirement for being that perfect lawyer. AL is in Aries 9H. Lord Mars is conjunct an own sign Jupiter, Mercury & Sun again confirming the same profession. Amātyakāraka Sūrya also conjunct this conglomeration of planets indicating the same – Lawyer.

In the Daśāmśa, the 10L Saturn is conjoined Mars & Mercury. To determine the nature of work in detail, we see the 10L of the D10 & the planets if any it conjoins or associates with. Notice the 10L being Saturn conjoined Mercury & Mars. Nixon’s work as a lawyer was majorly concentrated on commercial litigation [Mercury] in relation to petroleum matters [Saturn] & as well as on wills/last testaments/inheritance law [Mars is 8L].
Robert Kardashian:

2L in 6H or 2L being associated with the 6L is fantastic for a Lawyer as a native having this association earns his wealth [2H] from defeating enemies [6H]. In the chart above, the 2L & 6L are in parivartana which is the strongest association/sambandha between planets. All the planets in the 2H & 6H are also having rāśi dṛṣti on each other.

In the Daśāmśa, the artha trikona [2H, 6H, 10H] is seen to determine career/profession & we see a Hamsa Mahāpuruśa Jupiter in Sagittarius 10H & Mercury & Mars in the 2H & 6H respectively forming that perfect combination for a lawyer.
Anil Srivastava:

2nd Lord of Speech & Wealth Mercury conjunct Mars & Jupiter.
Mars Mercury forming Parijāta Yoga.
Saturn in the 6th House gives crushing defeat to enemies/competitors due to its amrita dṛṣti on the 8th, 12th & 3rd Houses.

Mars Mercury continuing their yoga in the Daśāmśa [D10] in the 7th House of private practice.
Venus is in the 6th House [Service] with Ketu the co-lord of Lagna: He also served as a Director & Legal Advisor to various companies, government commissions & a Nehru Trust for children.
