Maṅgalika Doṣa occurs when Maṅgala is placed in certain houses/bhāvas from Lagna & Chandra. Hence, it is to be first understood that maṅgalika doṣa occurring from Lagna & Chandra are 2 separate scenarios as both have different consequences. In this article, Maṅgalika Doṣa occurring from Lagna will be dealt with.
If Maṅgala is placed in the 2nd / 4th / 7th / 8th / 12th House FROM Lagna, it gives rise to Maṅgalika Doṣa. To understand this in detail, let us better separate these set of houses into 2 groups.
1] 2nd & 7th Houses:
The 2nd and 7th houses of the natural zodiac [Vrshabha/Taurus & Tula/Libra] are ruled by Śukra/Venus, which rules the Jala Tattwa. With 2nd House ruling Family and 7th House ruling Love and ALL enjoyments and bliss of life on this Bhū Loka/Planet Earth, Maṅgala, ruling agni tattwa, placed in either of these Houses causes ample damage to the aforesaid auspicious significations & experiences otherwise promised by these 2 Houses of Śukra.
Maṅgala in 2nd House can keep causing conflicts, fights and arguments in one’s family. And as the 2nd House also rules one’s speech, Maṅgala here gives the native the tongue/speech of a spear which can cut through the hearts of many.
With Maṅgala in 7th House, the native experiences jealousy from others. Native also has to fight some battles in life. Native can also get cheated or beaten in some way or the other. Maṅgala in 7th can very well cause separation either in form of a divorce or just because of circumstances the couple, although married or in love, is forced to live in estrangement for a major period of time. E.g.: A] An Army Man is home only for a few days and is serving his country for the rest of the year. B] Prabhū Shri Rāma had Uchcha/Exalted Maṅgala in his 7th House and we all know how “blissful” his married life was with him living in estrangement from Mā Sita almost all the time. Rāvana did kind of beat him (for a while) by kidnapping his wife by cheating and Shri Rāma had to fight this huge battle to get Mā Sita back.
These are majorly the manifestation of external circumstances and challenges the native (having Maṅgala in 2nd / 7th) experiences in life. Let us now see how Maṅgala’s position in 2nd / 7th carves a person’s psyche and preferences. Maṅgala (representing agni tattwa) placed in 2nd / 7th puts a break on Śukra’s “water flow” i.e., such a native likes to have a control over his/her sexuality. He/she doesn’t like too much of “all this” even when in a relationship (or will end up having this attitude as life progresses). He/she considers too much of it as impure. This is the psychology of a person having Maṅgala in 2nd / 7th House from Lagna. [Lagna is our brain. So, the psychology or the decision of having more or less of sexuality is seen from Maṅgalika Doṣa occurring from Lagna]. Such a person also gradually becomes spiritual and likes to meditate, do sādhana, tapasyā etc.
2] 4th 8th & 12th Houses:
4th 8th & the 12th house constitute the water trine / jala trikoṇa of the natural zodiac. The real happiness/sukha & peace is seen from this trine the prospects of which get damaged and replaced by aśānti/unrest, agitation and conflicts, if Maṅgala is placed in any of these houses. Maṅgala in 4th House can give anger, hard-heartedness, financial hardships, disturbed family affairs, problems pertaining to real-estate/properties. In the 8th House, Maṅgala poses a serious threat to break the first marriage [or the first serious relationship akin to marriage]. In the 12th House, Maṅgala doesn’t allow peace of mind as well as peaceful married life/relationship(s). Anger can become a major cause of turmoil in relationship(s). This Water trine [4th 8th 12th] is also important because water has to do with emotions. Hence, Maṅgala here causes strong emotions in the native. Such people can get very emotional about things. They love or hate very strongly. Hence, Maṅgala in these houses can give above average heat [of passion] i.e., an above average sexual appetite.
So, for e.g., if the wife has Maṅgala in her 7th House and the Husband has Maṅgala in his 8th House. Wife doesn’t want too much of sexuality but the husband anyways has a high heat problem and hence, he could end up having affairs. But let’s say, if both the husband and wife have Maṅgala in 7th house or let’s say the 8th house, then it’ll be absolutely fine as both will have equal energies and they’ll go about their marital path in sync.
To sum up, Maṅgala in 2nd / 4th / 7th / 8th / 12th from Lagna doesn’t augur well for a happy & blissful stay on this planet. The circumstantial bondage and suffering (relating to the house/bhāva Maṅgala is placed in) is pretty severe making the native feel as if he’s under some kind of a punishment.
Maṅgalika Doṣa also has to be seen in the Navāmśa Chart.
